Fail of the Epic Variety

So, you want to stop smoking, but your job sucks. Or rather, the folks on other shifts suck, and your own shift holds the shop up, and that really makes you want to keep smoking.

You choose to begin the Chantix anti-smoking program.

About 2 weeks later, your shop begins the week with an all-time amount of suckage. Out of nowhere, you start having suicidal tenancies.

The FDA has now provided a new health advisory on the drug Chantix.

Supposedly, back in November, they were investigating “…reports on Chantix related to changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal ideation, and actual suicidal behavior.” In addition, On February 1st they decided that it was “increasingly likely that there may be an association between Chantix and serious neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Hmmm…neuropsychiatric symptoms…lets see what wikipedia has to say about that…

Well…Neuropsychiatry is the branch of medicine dealing with mental disorders attributable to diseases of the nervous system…so an illness of the mind, or mental illness.

So symptoms of neuropsychiatry would be things like dementia, depression, hallucinations, being bi-polar, Schizophrenia, Suicidal tenancies, etc… Sounds like a pretty nasty thing to me.

So, do you want to quit smoking with Chantix, kill yourself, talk to folks that aren’t there, talk to yourself, or just deal with the possibilities of lung cancer, emphysema, and a NASTY smelling closet. I think it’s cold-turkey time.

You would think that the FDA would have recalled the drug while they take time to properly investigate its true effects, but instead, they just edit the warning labels. -Epic Fail-

Better yet, they could actually attempt to give a damn, and force folks to quit by outlawing tobacco altogether, but I guess a few people hearing voices is better than millions trying to kill each other from nicotine withdrawal.
